Brian Mast’s slavish embrace of Donald Trump’s failed COVID leadership and disgusting comments regarding sexual exploitation of minors and violence toward women are dishonorable and disqualifying.
Florida’s 18th CD
Older Democratic and Independent women (55+) need to see:
- Despite Trump admitting that he knew how deadly COVID was and purposefully downplaying the virus–and despite the record of 200K+ deaths and the lack of any national plan–Brian Mast gave him an A during a television interview on Trump’s response, saying “I would give him an A. I think he did an outstanding job”–all while voters in the 18th continue to have a negative view of the President.
In 2017, Brian Mast voted to abolish funding at the CDC that would help prevent pandemics. Now that we have an actual pandemic, Mast is refusing to help. Mast voted against expanding testing, contact tracing, and treatment, against paid sick leave so people who are infected can afford to stay home and not spread the disease, against $1,200 stimulus checks, and against disease prevention funding for seniors. Mast also sold Uber stock after a hearing on February 5, 2020 in which Ron Klain warned about the need for social distancing; at the same time, just like Trump, he downplayed the virus to his constituents.
- Brian Mast has a disturbing anti-woman record. Facebook posts have come to light in which Mast encouraged sex with fifteen year olds and suggested “let’s not turn this rape into a murder” as a pickup line. He says he is a changed man, but he voted against the Violence Against Women Act that would have kept guns out of the hands of domestic abusers, and against the Equal Pay Act that would ensure women make the same as men for doing the same job. He also voted for an unconstitutional abortion ban with no provision to protect the health of the mother and he voted to defund Planned Parenthood.
